Trouble increasing scale of box with 2pt stroke outline

I am in the process of creating an Illustrator drawing and have used 2pt stroke outlines in some places. When I try to increase the scale of the image by 30% the weight of the stroke doesn't change in proporation to the rest of the drawing. It stays the same.

If I select the image and click on 'Object>Flatten Transparency' then try again it seems to solve the problem but I'm not confident that this is the correct way to go about it.

Can anyone tell me what I should really be doing to increase the an image with a 2pt stroke outline proportionately?
