I would very much suggest you redirect (or let users click 'enter') to the main page in the same window as your first page. That got me very annoyed, as Windows XP (Home edition) alters so many active/idle windows so that they are fixed in one group like a drop-down menu, and I really, really hate when that happens. (Any help on that? PM me.)

The site design overall is contemporary (+), but only appeals to certain viewers (-), and it is yet another site that uses forced-plugins (-).

On your main page in the popped-up Flash window, you have that background picture, of what appears to be some sort of fruit, cut into segments and displayed with a (wonderful) mouseover flash effect. The image itself doesn't really appeal to me, and thus put me off your site.
-- EDIT: I see know that the image is random, but the following statement still applies --
The image also doesn't seem to fit in with the blue-grey colour scheme, either.

Now for my rant on the forced plug-in. You haven't provided an alternative to Flash, which (some may disagree) is a bad thing. Many people who want to keep their hard-drive space to a minimum will not download Flash, and hence, you lose a quarter of visitors. Though Flash is a very popular plug-in, you must consider all perspectives of web-users. Take a student as an example. He or she is studying photography as a college course, and is set an assignment to look at examples of photography and comment on them. He or she may have a computer that is strictly for studying purposes, and it is the only one in the household. Or they could be at their local library, where the computer he/she is using is kept at a minimum of space, and therefore does not have the plugin of Flash. The student comes across your site listed in a search engine directory (like Google), they are interested, and visit your site. Too bad, it is for Flash users only. Sure, you'll get a hit, but not one of satisfaction. The student will find possibly your rival's website and will use that instead, as it has provided an alternative to Flash, unlike yours.

I strongly suggest you revise the points I have made, unless you want to avoid the student and the visitor with picky tastes <ahem>.

On the topic of search engine submissions, I would recommend trying the http://dmoz.org Open Directory Project, which could (potentially) get your site listed on Google, All-the-Web, AltaVista, Google USENET, HotBot, Lycos, Nothern Light and Yahoo. As long as the editors find your site acceptable, you will be linked.

I think the most easy way to get free traffic on your website is to submit your own written articles on different websites.
Visitors daily read new articles and are happy to visit author's website.

I do the same and i am getting much better traffic than any other promotional method.

Here's some list for you guys to submit your articles:

Since vsworx claims that their firm "acutely focuses on ensuring 100% client satifaction", maybe you can explain to me why, after vsworx convinced me to advance $1,000 US to theirfirm in March of this year, I can't get any service at all!

Nilesh (the sales rep) is no longer available to take a call and apparently is remaining hidden on yahoo messenger...even after promising me a quote for a rather small job over 3 weeks ago.

If they were half as good at programming as they are at ripping people off Vsworx might be worth dealing with. For me....never again!

I work for a very big search engine marketing firm here in the US so I hope you consider my information valuable.

No offence, but judging by your web site, either you are self taught (In all the wrong ways) or your teacher didn't do their job. Web Standards have been around for years now so there is really no excuse not to follow them. I suggest you go back and learn how to code valid XHTML and CSS and educate yourself on accessibility, usability, and information architecture.

Now for what you really want to hear. In order to get top spots in the search engines you need to do your research. You need to find out what keywords and phrases people are searching for in your industry and purchase a few spots in Google. You may not want to do this but it's a good starting point to getting traffic to your site and hopefully link backs that will boost your ranking.

The most important ingredient to getting on the top is CONTENT. You can never have enough content. The more content you have, the more likely someone will find your web site. Flash is not going to help you. Just because you have a picture of some text on your site does not mean it's actually content. Google can't magically read an image. If you view your source code you can actually see how much content you have. That is why I said you need to get into the mindset of using valid XHTML and CSS to sperate structure from design.

Just keep these in mind when first starting out:

*Content is king
*Links to your site, and a few from your site with relevant content
*Good use of headings that relate to the page information
*Good page descriptions so people know what they are clicking on in Google
*Using certain keywords/phrases throughout your content to catch people who search for them.

And of course, there is more of a science to it like keyword density and such, but mostly it is just best practice that all web developers should follow.

BTW, I never post to bulletins or forums but I am sick of seeing people get ripped off by these so called "companies". In fact, you should be getting a design/redesign, fully functional web site that is accessible and valid, a detailed creative call to make sure we know your business and how to market it, a project coordinator that is available Monday - Friday to handle support issues, a monthly phone call to give you updates, paid ad management, social media marketing, and so much more.

On average, for a basic web site your looking at maybe 2-3 thousand a month. Anything that requires a custom script or maybe social networking can be 10 or more thousand a month depending on your needs.

Don't get ripped off by these small "firms", do your research and find out who really is the best at what they do.

Check out some of these sites, some offer web services as well.

The colors are nice and overall the design is acceptable. But keep in my mind that websites are not magazine advertisments with pretty pictures, they must be SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) friendly :).

BEST OF LUCK :dude:

Hi,

I think your work is great. You would really benefit from a more simple approach to your website. Let your work speak for you. In other words, more of your work, less on the website design. Especially since this is your first website. You're going to have many website issues along the way. Keep it simple. Think of a simple site with tons of white space, very simple, very clean static HTML. Many times, there is no need for flash. Sometimes, watching a preloader every time I click on an image can be painful. Good Luck!
