Review:
Creating realistic 3D human models has always been a hard task; animating them is even harder. Curious Labs Poser (previously Metacreations Poser) provides over 60 detailed pre-made models including animals and robots, an intuitive interface to pose and animate those models, and various tools to modify them or even create your own. Feature highlights include the Walk Designer that lets you precisely define how your models walk (there is even a slider for sexy walk) and a well done library browser where you can visually load and save individual components such as facial expressions, clothing, hair, and lights. While Poser makes posing your models, and deforming individual body parts extremely easy, its material controls are fairly basic. Therefore if you want to go beyond default materials, you will need a more flexible 3D renderer for best results, or if your output would be 2D you can use Painter or Photoshop to paint over your models.
Overall Poser is a remarkable program that does what it is intended for very well. Many popular all-purpose 3D programs are not very accessible because they are not only very complex but expensive. Poser, on the other hand, does a great job of hiding all the unnecessary details where they belong: under the hood thanks to its friendly interface, and of course its price is right!
The best interface I have used on a 3D app. The amount of things you can make with this are endless. Includes some great allready made poses great options for changing poses. Props, clothes and other lighting options can be used.
