Review:
Macromedia Generator adds dynamic content support to Flash by separating design from content. You can create Generator templates in which variables can be substituted with data from outside sources such as databases. The program comes in two different editions: Developer and Enterprise. The developer edition is in reality a crippled version of the Enterprise edition: It does not allow output generated in real time as a result of user queries. The developer edition only produces static Flash objects (or GIF, JPG, or PNG) which have to be manually built everytime you have made a change in your database. So, your users cannot login, search for 'John Doe', or request a real-time stock quote. However they can enjoy things like dynamic pie charts that can change when you rebuild your Flash object.
The pricier Enterprise edition which is licensed in per processor basis acts like a real server (actually a web server extension), and can pump custom data when requested. It can also scale across CPUs while the Developer edition cannot, has a caching system, and supports web-based real-time administration.
