GIF Movie Gear is a powerful GIF animation tool for designers who want full control over the process. Although the user interface is intuitive and easy-to-use, no wizards come with the program. In fact there are no automatic animation features like scrolling text or image transitions. But lack of such features is not a weakness. GIF Movie Gear is made for professionals who create every single frame of a GIF animation in a 3rd party image-editing software. GIF Movie Gear can import Adobe Photoshop files and convert layers to animation frames. It can also import AVI files, animated cursors and even GIF filmstrips, which are simply GIF files holding multiple same-size images that are concatenated together.

The interface is the strongest point of the program. Inserting or changing the order of frames is a snap. You can modify the properties of either the selected frames or all frames. The program even lets you blend two different GIF animations. GIF Movie Gear has powerful optimization features (color reducing, palette shrinking, and frame reduction) to reduce file size. It also always displays the size of an animation and the estimated download time on the toolbar so that you can instantly see the effect of a modification made in that animation.
