Apache is the most popular web server software used in the world according to the NetCraft Web Server Survey, and it is free. Apache is HTTP/1.1 compliant, extensible with third-party modules, comes with full source code, has a powerful URL rewriting engine, supports virtual hosts and configurable real-time piped logs. The new 2nd version addresses scalability issues, and should work equally well on both Unix and Windows platforms.
