Designer's words: HOW TO MAKE A WEB SITE SCREAM…LOUDER
The Client: ScreamingMedia.com. A content aggregator and syndicator. Pre-IPO and very high profile
The Challenge: Combine high aesthetics with high functionality in a B2B site
Since the CEO of the site is one of advertising’s creative legends (Jay Chiat), the marriage of superlative design and imaginative text with clear hierarchy and smooth navigation was imperative.
We inherited a strong visual vernacular and distinct tone of voice in the old screamingmedia.com website. Our task was to transform what was essentially a sleek 2D layout into a harder working site with information architecture based on the user experience.
Art director and designer David Loewy’s goal was to seamlessly blend pre-existing graphic elements into flexible modular templates that could accommodate ScreamingMedia’s fast-evolving needs. Content strategist and writer Cydney Roach aimed to structure content according to visitors’ needs whilst speaking with a piquancy that matched the strong graphic presence. Our comments: By using only grayscale images, and the color red for the title the designer(s) captured the traditional newsletter look and feel. Because there is only one hue (red), it is really easy to focus on the content, which is also presented in a very concise manner. Don't worry there are color photos inside though they are not big 8)
