Our comments: Functional integration of Flash-based dynamic content and sophisticated table-based layout. Clever use of boxes that can have different background colors and images makes it easy to organize content. Excellent selection and placement of imagery not only emphasize the importance NRG places on environment, but also spice up the otherwise rectangular layout. One gripe though: the base font size is too small.
On the contrary, the flash adds a little animated appeal to the website and I'm more it. Using JavaScript and DHTML, however well-intentioned, is far more likely to cause incompatabilities and alienate potential clients than using a tried, true, and genuinely multi-platform plugin to deliver content.
Nice multi-cell graphic technique. Not so much impressed by the secondary pages, and the red menu was uninspired.
"As the techniques of Web design have become more sophisticated over the past four or five years, designs have generally improved - although there are many instances of animation technology, flipping text and suchlike, being used purely because they are there, rather than for any practical reason of improved communication."
The NRG Group is a great example of the above quote. I would like to know the purpose of the Flash content displayed at the top of the screen. Why is it there? It's just a load of rubbish. If they want to use scroll-through quotes, why note use a DHTML/JavaScript script?
I'm not going to dignify this site with a rating, eventhough the design itself is marvellous and the content is good.
