Our comments: Originally launched in November 1997 under the name Final Fantasy VII Online, this popular Final Fantasy fan site has gone through six design revisions in its six years of life, the current one being designed in 2001. In its current form, the site offers massive amounts of information about Final Fantasy versions IV to X.
Probably the most impressive feature of the Final Fantasy Online site design is the superb integration of game graphics with the page layout. Given the limitations of HTML, the designer Gonzales did a magnificent job. Every single page of the site looks like a page from paper game magazines. We have one gripe though: the menu items around the version selection graphic do not really stand out from the rest of the site due to small type size, and there is also hardly any space between them.
Finally, don't forget to visit the about section to see the older site designs: Some of them are still online!
This site doesnt do much for me. The graphics pulled from the game are cool, but I found the navigation to be poorly executed. The over all site seems big and clunky, the images are big, and the content seems to be squished in as an after thought.
why do 99 of 100 game related websites look like one another? Is there a hidden rule that the backgrounds need to be black? The three column layout? Just curious.
Apart from that, taken into consideration the gorgeous in-game gfx, the site itself is fairly dull and does in no way capture the soul of the game.
The site looks nice, but the site's navigation although works is poorly designed. The links for the different sections and sub sections are way too closely spaced together.
