Our comments: Features two versions: "Playfull" and Simple. Both versions make use of a fabulous 3D engine, but the playfull version, as the name implies, offers the most eyecandy. In fact, to maximize the 3D effect, everything is displayed from an isometric view. As you would expect, it is hard to read something tilted 30 degrees. But you can always switch to the simple version. All 3D objects are nicely detailed and very well animated. The animations are very smooth even with many moving objects on screen (tested on a P3-733). You would notice that there are levers whose sole purpose is to make menu items to fly in formation. Hmm, that's an interesting interface concept :) 100% Flash.
i am incandescant with rage after reading the first review of this site. the guy who made it is clearly a genius and the people giving bad reviews of it are showing up their own lack of understanding of design! absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!
I am utmostly disappointed in this site. Quite honestly, the angled images one the "fun" version of the site make me sick in the stomach. Bad site all around.
I defintely feel that this dude has crazy skills. Im not going to bash my man for what I didnt like about the site, but rather praise his ability for what I did like. I think that its a site that takes Multimedia to new heights and I think its refreshing to see someone do something out of the norm.
I also like the fact that the site is on an angle, it adds to the flavor. Anyway, keep on putting out the high quality stuff man, and for those that negate the fact that this site is the bomb, I have one thing to say, "LET US SEE SOME OF YOUR WORK!"
Very unique style! Good use of colour and graphics. Easy main navigation but can be slightly confusing on others bits and takes longer to work out how to use it. Fun little games packed into each section which adds to the overall presentation and a great use of actionscript.
Isometric graphics spot on! Features a quick and fun version on the site which is very handy. We need more sites in this personal style of designing!
Could present the site version option in html so browsers without flash do not have to download the plugin apart from that well done!
Personally, I think a site should be more usable than Yam's playground. I am a web designer my self and still I had to look around for some seconds trying to figure out, what does what and so forth. Imagine what happens when a possible client thinks when he tries to move around the site! Possibly he gets confused.
As far as design goes, I think Yam has a very interesting style. Colours and the whole concept are worth studying. I can't complain about download speeds, they are fine! Even the playful version is quite fast.
But I must insist on the usability thing. It is confusing.
Anyway, well done, I am sure you invested allot of time in it!
Highly original approach to a portfolio site. Lush colors, bold graphics and eye for detail. The full-screen is a downer, as well as the numerous typos.
Generally, it's a greatly presented site. The "playfull" mode puts the site to the max using complex Flash, yet, in which is a problem. I may be mistaken, but there is no alternative to downloading Flash. Plugins should be voluntarily downloaded, not just because a webmaster wants you to download them because he hasn't provided an alternative.
The design is a good one, yet in compatibility, it fails miserably.
- Forced plugins
- Popup windows that take up the whole screen (1024x768 dpi.)
As I've said - it's a good design, but it doesn't stick up for itself during compatibility assessment.
