Our comments: This grungy web site design for a skateboard wheel manufacturer is a wonderful example of orderly disorder: Just the right amount of single-color images and artificially induced print artifacts of the 60's are meshed with the hip-hop street culture of the 90's.
Always amusing these 'spontaneous ultra positive reviews' right after a site is featured. Gets even beter when people then start defending the site in case of some 'bad press'. Obviously the creator or friends of him have nothing to do with that :-D.
The site itself is okay. Some nice PS effects, but all in all lacks a bit of maturity. promising start, but needs refinement.
Geeez, Alan, it took you four minutes? Maybe you should step up from your 1200 baud connection to something like 56k.
The site loaded in no time for me!
As far as the design goes, I love the way they used typography here - that beaten up slab serif combined with that bold Impact font gives this website a real 'tude man!
The artwork is very nice, BUT it isn't a smart idea to have the background as a very very large image, it took me 4 minutes to see the whole frontpage ! Perhaps some optimization of the background image might be in order ? The problem with most web designers is that graphically they are very very good, technically they seem to have no understanding of usability issues.
A down to earth design style that is quite appropriate for the subject. In this case, content being limited, the simplicity of navigation has been well chosen and doesnt leave me clueless as where I can go.
The homepage features a "dude" in monochrome that changes at every pageload... fun and adds some dynamics for repeat users.
One hick... you can go back to the "home" page without typing back the main URL.
Also... I have rarelly seen such a good render of a paper texture... nice job.
This is a great argument for "less is more" in design. Great use of texture and information flow! Oh and wow, they didn't need flash and rip cutting audio to inspire the feel... Something lacking in sites that feature this kind of content these days.
