Designer's words: Stopthehate.org is an resource for education, information, response, and reporting for hate crimes in Massachussets. The site design is built from the core theme of inform, empower, and act. The site leverages Macromedia Flash, DHTML, Quicktime, and PHP/mySQL. The site recently won Best of Show, Best Concept, and Best Non-Profit/Government Site at the 2001 Massachussets Interactive Media Council (MIMC), the largest technology interest group in the country.
Our comments: Stop the Hate.org is the on-line presence of a state of Massachusetts backed task force fighting against hate crimes in state schools. Sections of the site are clearly separated from each other with changes in the color of key page elements namely the top menu bar and section headline graphics. Flash is used to effectively draw attention to headlines, however many individual pages lack the visual appeal of section homes since they have no photos or illustrations to make reading long passages of text more attractive.
