Designer's words: Our brief for the eco website was effectively to 'transfer the print brochure into a web medium'. Our solution was to develop up a system in Flash whereby full-screen bitmaps can be used as background imagery, even over a slow connection.
Each new image 'paints-over' the old background as you enter each new page.
The images themselves are broken down into slices in PhotoShop, and imported as such into Flash (this allows them to appear progressively in strips, giving the perception of faster load time.
A similar technique is used (more effectively this time) on our own website, www.gva.net.au
Our comments: Full-screen, CD-ROM style web site design. Best experienced in high resolutions since images and text become sharper. Looks like a printed catalog when the menu is off. There is little preloading, images are loaded on-the-fly. 100% Flash.
