Designer's words: Lagunitas has established a brand identity that reflects the humor and beer fetishes of the staff members. Fine Brand wanted to create a colorful, "hand-made" site that would capitalize on the existing product identities and also emphasize the community established by the brewery's loyal fans.
Fine Brand Media designed a big, loud, fun site for Lagunitas. Consistent with the personality of the brewers, the site says what it has to say and then has a beer and then has another beer and then takes a nap. All the required information is there in a readily accessible format. But concise does not have to mean boring.
In order to allow remote customers to get a glimpse of the origin of their favorite brew, virtual tours of the brewery were created. Also just like Lagunitas, the site concentrates on the beer and community, providing a place for the company to communicate its story, plans for parties, and product information.
Our comments: By using the label colors of Lagunitas Amber Ale (brownish orange) and Pale Ale (blue) beers, Fine Brand created a bold design in which there is no place for soft drop shadows. Product photography (various beer bottles in different orientations) with hard cast shadows are effectively used through the site.
This site is nice. It serves the purpose for what it's meant for. The site is consistent with the beer's brand which is the most important thing. On the flip side, I think the site is lacking in certain areas. It doesn't really get you excited. Although it's colorful and flashy, you might expect to see more bells and whistles from a beer site. But I totally understand, as web developers, we sometimes have to work under tight restrictions.
Also, I glad the site doesn't ask you for your birthday before you enter. It's like c'mon now?...That's really effective.
