Designer's words: First Republic Bank specializes in such services as luxury home loans and high net worth personal banking. Their site needed to reflect the financial strength and service orientation that such a bank can offer its customers.
Fine Brand needed to design a site that could preserve a strong "banking" identity while modernizing the look for the Web. The challenge for Fine Brand's designers was to infuse the site with a luxurious, clean design and unobtrusive technical features that make the site functional and appealing while not getting in the way of the Bank's message.
Our comments: Warm, compelling color scheme, delicate tab graphics, neat page layout, and excellent photo selection set First Republic Bank's web site apart. The body font, Times New Roman, looks surprisingly refreshing considering recent web design trends that rely heavily on rectangular Verdana or overly complex Georgia.
Very professional site. Great use of various colors, which will appeal to a lot of people.
The main thing I dislike it the amount of graphics. Even on broadband, I found I had to wait longer than I wanted to. I would ESTIMATE there were a good 50 graphics to create the layout. I am sure the number could have either been reduced, or slightly reduce the quality of the images. Often, you can reduce the quality of images and save lots of KB, without visually noticing anything different!
