Our comments: Tom Nulens' personal web site features an easy-on-eyes design, an interesting menu system that reminds the Windows start menu, and the most uniquely presented resume we have ever seen. The animated butterfly with a smooth drop shadow steals the show. 100% Flash.
the site has a nice flow to it. navigating it is a dream, but as said before I do feel that the site lacks a certain identity. The image at the home seems too forced, it lacks the powerful simplicity of the rest of the site.
not bad attempt to minimalistic approach.
however, where successful examples always have a certain tension, vibration between the few used elements, this site is mainly lackluster.
Really well done simplicity. You might be curious as to why I gave the graphics a 10. That's because the few graphics that are there are done almost perfectly.
Definitely a nice menu system, although the transparency was a slight nuisance with the background.
Tom dares to think minimalistic, which is commendable. However, he loses track of the site's goal (displaying work, skills) in his attempts, and therefore it becomes rather bland. A well designed dry cracker in desperate need of some toppings.
Tom's site is beautiful in it's simplicity and elegance. His architectural design brings a new light to all web designers and it shines above all the rest.
