Designer's words: Our charge in designing this site was to create an easy navigation system to browse the company's many releases on CD and Vinyl. We tried to take several tried-and-true web navigation mechanisms and make them more unique. We feel the end result is a creative site whose massive amount of content is easy and fun to browse.
Our comments: Ubiquity Records is a record company based in San Francisco that has a mission to make unheard music ubiquitous. The first thing you would probably notice in the web design is the distinctive style of the top menu bar: A heavy font with an attitude is used for rendering menu items and explanations. The curves look fantastic with anti-aliasing (we have always thought that curves in lo-res look more interesting than their super-smooth 300 dpi counterparts), and the background of the interface changes from one section to another as an added bonus. Another remarkable aspect of the design is the groovy blend of selected record cover images and visual materials, which is a smart way to show multiple images in an uncluttered and attractive manner.
