Our comments: The online portfolio of Chicago based photographer Chip Williams has a minimalist, easy-to-use design ideal for keeping the focus on what the site is for: photos. 100% Flash.
Very very good use of flash. I enjoy this website alot.
I like the sounds when you mouseover the navigation links. It makes it easy to determine what are links, and makes the overall presentation of the website very enjoyable.
A problem I could see easily is the navigation for the images. I'm a tech-savvy/webdesigner/programmer etc. person so It didn't take me too long to figure it out, but I'm sure that other people will have trouble with this. I recommend adding instructions, telling the user to move the bar to see more etc. After learning how to do it, it's easy to use.
For the next version (if any), I would include the option of clicking on an image where it would either open up a new window or open seamlessly within the window with more information about the image. Including: Title, Date taken, Description, What the photographer liked about this image, etc. Maybe even an option to download a high-res version for publication etc.
Generally I think its a very cool site - Well done. If improvement was going to be made - it'd have to be in the content. Lets get some titles and credits and descriptions of those photos. I like it.
Contrary to the opinions of many, simple is very hard to do. This site does it well. It focused my interest on the photographs and kept it there.
On a down note, some visitors may get confused about dragging the little box to see more photos. Yes, it seems obvious, but obvious is a completely subjective thing, particularly on the web.
