About:
Sara Shuman brings a balance of technical and aesthetic experience to any interactive design project.
Her digital imaging career began in 1984 when she convinced her boss at a small design firm that they needed to get this thing called a "Mac". Sixteen years later, Sara's creative acumen is balanced by an intimate understanding of the technology that drives modern interface design.
Working her way up the ranks as a computer production artist, she moved to Los Angeles in 1991 from her island home of St. Croix in the Caribbean. Joining the prestigious design firm, The Designory, Sara gained world-class experience as a graphic artist, designing award winning promotional marketing media for suchclients as Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Nissan and Isuzu.
In 1996, she traded in atoms for bits and joined Hollywood.com as the Senior Interactive Media Designer. Her work at Hollywood.com included the design and architecture of dozens of motion picture websites, leading to her appointment as Creative Director.
Sara led the team of designers and developers that created high profile projects including 3 Academy Award sites, live video coverage from the Hollywood premieres, Showtimes, a real-time database movie theatre locator, and the official Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Site. Stretching beyond the limits of the PC, she also designed Palm and Nino PDA application interfaces forthe Showtimes project.
One of her major successes at Hollywood.com was hercreation of the "Golden Hitch" Trailer Awards. Her vision included forming a prestigious list of film, trailerhouse and television executives, movie critics, and entertainment personalities to serve on the Nominating Committee, and then allow the online users to vote forthe winner in the eight categories. In 1999, the "Golden Hitch" was awarded to Twentieth Century Fox's "Ever After," produced with New Wave Entertainment, as the winner of the Best Overall category.
